admin access conspiracy?
« on: January 19, 2014, 01:56:47 PM »
JF.  Why do I have Admin access now.  Every post shows Modify.

I couldn't tell you, BF. Next time do sign messages you leave in other's posts with your name, so it isn't blamed on those others! I checked the permissions, and in my opinion you can't modify any other posts than your own, and those only within the grace period.

Maybe you can show me by attempting to modify this post here, write some message into this post?

Hi JF.
The odd note has disappeared from the bottom of the post now. So all's well I guess.
Sorry to bother you - thought I should mention it.

No, Roger, it's still there, and the mystery remains, how BF could write that into your post. He doesn't have permissions for that!

In the last days the internet was screwed up. Maybe there has been some misconfiguration somewhere. But from my administration control panel no changes had been made. None of the controls are set to enable BF to what he could do. I guess that's the curse of technology. Unless of course the NSA, CIA, and all those "in control" had their hands in this.

It's been fixed, so let's put it to rest and move on to more important things, like more conspiracy theories.

JF, You have no idea what I have to do to get permission.....Like using my ATM card.  ::)

Come on, BF, the curse of technology, the control of government agencies, appointed by the electorate to keep the voters from having "bad ideas", and the...advantage of having somebody superior to keep you from "overspending your pocket money" are different things.  ;D

Any reason for this???

The moderator log says, it has been changed by BF. Neither does BF have Moderator or Admin permission nor did he realize that he posted in somebody else's post. I just talked to him on the phone, and he said, he posted that as answer quoting Alfonsos post. I don't know what malfunctions are occurring at the moment.

Very strange thing! Looks similar to those double post errors, that sometimes occur, when data get mixed up in an internet cache between server and PC. Only this time things seem to have gotten mixed up between PC and server. And the server should not have let them happen.

Both times when BF posted into other's posts he did so from the same IP address. The mystery still remains. :uhm

After talking with BF on the phone again, I'm logged in as him now, and to my surprise I can modify others posts, just like he said. But he doesn't have nor want moderator permissions. Something has screwed up. Funnily it seems to be his account only. I tried with two others, and they cannot modify other's posts.

I keep looking for a solution.

------------------------------------

It remains a mystery. BF's ability to modify posts seems to be limited to this forum "General discussions". Neither does he have the full tools Mods usually have, like "split", "move", "merge"  etc., nor is he entered as forum moderator for that forum.

---------------------------------------

Getting nearer to what I have to look for: BF can only modify posts in threads he posted the OP of.

Found it! A new function, or one I wasn't aware of, that needed to be turned off. Probably came with the last update, or changed with that. Not bad actually, if you know about it and you want to give each topic starter the power to modify the replies to his topic. To make good use of that, one has to start the forum very differently.  We better do not use it at the moment. Have to think it over first, how to make good use of that before implementing. Can cause a lot of confusion! :spin

JF, I'm happy the problem has been identified and sorted out.  To Roger and Alfonso, I apologize for editing the posts as I was only trying to reply and quote what you guys wrote.  As I said earlier, it caught me by surprise which is why I contacted JF asap, and gave him my PW to see for himself.

I don't know about this fellas, maybe baby farts works for the NSA or something. He even has a semi naked girl jumping on a bed beside every post. How can you trust a person like that.  :lol

Alfonso, would you prefer a semi-naked jumping man instead?  Wait...don't answer that.  We don't want the NSA to have knowledge of that sort of thing.  ;D

And don't forget to keep it wrinkled, although that's a difficult task to ask any foreigner to do in Thailand.  ::)
