Parks will open for festival
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has agreed to open 30 public parks for those who plan to celebrate the Loy Krathong festival amid tight Covid-19 control measures.

Deputy Bangkok governor Sopon Pisuttiwong, the director of the BMA's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), said the city parks would be open on Oct 31 but festival-goers would be required to follow strict health measures to prevent a second outbreak of the virus.

Pol Lt Gen Sopon said face masks would be compulsory at all times and people would be asked to check in and out using the scan the Thai Chana QR code.

Park officials will be deployed to remind people to wear masks properly and socially distance, he said. Event organisers will also be asked to provide hand sanitisers.

Permanent secretary for the Interior Chatchai Phromlert said authorities had been told to remain alert because many events that usually draw large crowds were approaching.

A mesmerising neon light show marked the re-opening of backpacker Mecca Khaosan Road in Bangkok, Thailand. The iconic street had been closed at the start of the year for renovations but it remained shuttered due to the pandemic travel restrictions. However, a seven-day event called the 'Hide and Seek Night Walk With Lighting Installation' was laid on to encourage visitors back to the area. It includes neon light installations, music, tours, food, and art workshops.
