Geoffrey Howe and Dennis Healey

Sad to hear of the deaths of these two very great Gents.
Both clever, witty, resolved and talented.
Re. Geoffrey Howe - en route to Newquay from Calcutta, I landed at Plymouth on Brymon Airways, an emergency landing due to hurricane type weather wiping out all other options.
The Pilot slammed the plane down after a true roller coaster approach with my brave self holding the hand of the Stewardess in the next seat ! Both truly bricking it as they say ! THAT bad.
Two Policeman got up from the front seats and Geoffrey Howe was escorted off the Plane first - hair unruffled and with a calm smile as he left the plane.
Avidly watched his resignation speech from Thatcher's Gov't from a Hotel in Gent - moving, moderate and heroic.
R.I.P. both

Hi TT and re. your question on the other thread.
It was the late lamented Dennis Healey himself who said that being criticised by dear old Geoffrey Howe, was like 'being savaged by a dead sheep'.
H of C June 1978 I'm told. ATB
