Thailand Reports Close To 100,000 Pneumonia Cases This Year

BANGKOK, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- Public Health Minister Dr. Pradit Sintawanarong said nearly 100,000 pneumonia cases have been reported in the country since early this year.

Dr. Pradit in quoting data from the ministry's Department of Disease Control said a total of 99,670 pneumonia patients and 581 deaths were reported from Jan 1 to Aug 4, Thai News Agency (TNA) reported.

About 30.50 percent of pneumonia sufferers are 65 years old and above with children aged up to one year old making up 10.63 percent and those aged between 55 to 64 making up 10.27 percent.

The North has the highest pneumonia rate followed by the Northeast, South and central region.

Over the last three years, the number of pneumonia patients in Thailand peaked in the rainy season from August to October before rising again from January to March.
