Sisaket on alert after reports of avian flu cases in Cambodia

Si Sa Ket, 3 October 2013 (NNT) - Sisaket has advised all of its provincial units to be on alert for a possible outbreak of avian flu, both the H7N9 and the H5N1 types.

During the meeting at the Sisaket provincial hall, deputy Governor Sanit Khoasa-ard said public health offices in the province's 22 districts should educate people on how to avoid infectious diseases and how to notice the symptoms.

Healthcare officials and volunteers should immediately report to their supervisors if they come across patients with flu-like symptoms.

There have been no reports of avain flu cases in Sisaket. However, several cases of the H5N1 have been reported in Cambodia, which Sisaket borders on. Those who plan to travel to the country are advised to avoid any direct contact with poultry, he added.

Last month, four new cases of H5N1 were reported in Cambodia, with one fatality.
