Aww! mr.tum don't take on so,just a bit o fun. which goes to show farangs don't like you poking fun at the thai people. has a way of biting back, that's good. if you are upset about that then spare a thought for the admin of a forum not far from here,as gossip around the forums he is now named "The pied piper" all the complaints we hear about th.visa, but they don't tell you not to post on another forum. Where as the admin of this forum you can go and come as you please, when and where you want,up to you,as they say, don't think he's banned anyone either,as his attitude seems to be people do change, which they do,some expats stop kicking and become mature adults and get respected, a credit to not only the forum but to other expats as well.

now mums day,all the men in the soi and some women, follow the yearly tradition of cutting back the trees, they start at one end of the soi hacking away clearing trees bushes in fact anything in the way gets thrashed, all the way to the pyb home where food and drink is laid on for them and a good chinwag they have, folk eat and drink for free, paid for by the donations of the people in the soi. they are very clever on getting donations as they give your name and what you donated over a loud speaker system for all to hear, several times that day, you wouldn't want to lose face now would you.

Scientists say, there is sad truth behind the legend of the pied piper of Hamelin. Young people from the town were having wild pagan parties, their processions/demonstrations usually led by a piper, but the extremely religious Counts of Spiegelberg didn't like that. So they let their soldiers murder all 130 participants/young rebels on June 26,1286.

There's different versions of what happened, is it a fairy tale as the bbc version , Robert Browning tells the story of a strange musician in multi-coloured clothes who promises to free the town of Hamelin from its plague of rats. With his pipe he lures the rats to the river, where they drown. But when he returns for his money, the town refuses to pay up. Again he puts his pipe to his lips and plays. But this time it's the children followed him and were  Swallowed up by a fantastical cavern, they are never to be seen again.

but a money spinner quickly goes into action as a tourist attraction. The tale of the piper has drawn tourists to Hamelin for more than 300 years.

This story is also written on the wall of Pied Piper House in Bungelosenstrasse (drumless street) - the street where the children were last seen and where, to this day, no music can be played out of respect for the lost children. The entire business of the rats could be an attempt to wash the memories with a cover up of what really happened. some say the children were led out of town they had the plague, some say they had the dancing illness, St Vitus' Dance.

The legend was written down by the Grimm Brothers, but there is evidence of the actual disappearing of 130 youths from the town many hundred years ago. Scientists now have found evidence of the legend being a cover up for political reasons. One of my former professors, Iring Fetscher, has written lots of books about political interpretation of fairy tales, for example   in 1972 the book "Wer hat Dornröschen wachgeküsst?" (Who kissed Sleeping Beauty awake). He based his conclusions mainly on assumptions, but today scholars keep finding more and more pieces of evidence, that those fairy tales were actually disguised criticism of political situations at their time.

HA! HA! The pied piper you are funny, i can imagine them all wobbling from side to side following, staggering trying to keep in step, having a crafty swig as they go.  I enjoy reading this thread nan, you certainly tell it as it is.

The cutting of the trees is a great community event, but i wish they cleared up after. Like when a truck breaks down they put a branch out in the road to warn others, when the truck gets going again guess where the branches are left. WHOOPS better stop moaning, you carry on.

Fables or Myth true or false
Fables or Myth. first of all whats the difference, the word myth comes from the greek word mythos which means story. normally about gods and the powers they have, the story gets handed down from generation to generation,a myth a story that is considered true where a fable is considered false or fictional. The word fable comes from the Latin word fabula which means a narrative or tale. So Myths are considered true stories while fables are considered false stories, like what we entertain our kids with a bedtime story.are you asleep yet, zzzzz

but like the pied piper some change with different versions of events,as sinful things that occured years ago, and the change is sometimes they cover up those bad things that was done,so everything looks rosy.

The Tortoise and the Hare a well known fable a race between unequal partners which ingenuity and trickery are employed to overcome a stronger opponent. the hare is so arrogant when he is on the Leo that the tortoise challenges him to a race, the hare leaves the tortoise well behind, just like a one horse race,so confident of winning he takes a knap,to wake up to find the tortoise has crawled past him, winning the race.

yes! yes! we know all of that,so whats the moral of the story,if your still awake that is. perseverance winneth. Dont be over confident,it was not the Tortoise’s plucky conduct in taking on a bully that was emphasised but the Hare’s foolish over confidence that lost him the race.

Thai myths remember if you look between someones legs you can tell if their a ghost
