give the guy some stick.of all the things that go down in pattaya,of all the crimes commited and what goes on,he's wandering round the back streets looking for rubbish to take pics. there is plenty more rubbish i hear if you stroll along beach road, anytime day or night. so when he gets out the holiday pics to show people, err say no more ...

those last famous words as Royal Irrigation Department in response to the Laos dam disaster affirmed there was no danger of a dam collapsing in Thailand. how sad as after the dam burst in Laos, there is a scramble for food, medicines and coffins.i see on tv the good people from Korat donating what ever they could,to be taken to Laos, what good caring people.

although the Mekong dams feed our region’s hunger for energy, sad to say that satisfying that appetite comes at a cost to human life

A situation report from the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said roads and bridges were damaged and eight villages were hit by flash flooding after the failure of the dam in the province of Attapeu. It said boat and helicopter were the only means of transport in the affected areas.

Schools in safe areas were being used as evacuation centers, and about 1,300 families needed tents for shelter, it said. On the road to the small town of Sannamxai in the worst-hit area, Reuters saw Norwegian People's Aid trucks carrying aid, including fresh water and blankets. Phra Ajan Thanakorn, a Buddhist monk returning from Sannamxai, said he had delivered food and medicine in four pick-up trucks that had come from Vientiane and he was heading back there to get more.

back home / in the meanwhile some farangs whinging the alcohol ban, those poor mum n pop shops.they won't be able to sell alcohol. just a point to make, when there is an alcohol ban is the drink driving deaths on the road reduced.

Why not lock them up in there own prison
almost on a daily basis we now here of people in prominent positions misusing their trust to their advantage, the further up the ladder you go the more serious. money drugs and guns,a serious problem we can all see in the news everyday. I wonder are the cons getting conned

Eleven prison wardens sacked amid drugs, embezzlement charges

The Corrections Department has dismissed 11 prison wardens found guilty of serious misconduct, eight of them losing their jobs without pensions or benefits.  Of the three “retired” with pensions, two were found to have been absent from work for 15 consecutive days and the other had let an inmate receive a package from a relative that contained a SIM card for a cell phone.

The more serious charges against the other eight include smuggling in opioid pain relief medication for inmates, peddling a large quantity of cough medicine, being middlemen in drug deals, cooking the books to pocket extra cash and absconding with inmates’ earnings.   http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/national/30350860

They seek him here, they seek him there.
The elusive Phuket croc thought to be a friend of LORD LUCAN has been spotted sunbathing off the Laypang Beach, cages have been layed with meat to lure him inside but he's no fool. he left his footprints everywhere just to annoy.

is this another case of people in high responsable positions abusing their trust,is corruption being exported as i read that from https://www.thairath.co.th/content/1341971

"Bent officials at Thai Embassy in Yangon" as Myanmar illegal visa scandal continues

There are serious questions being asked that suggest an official or officials in the Thai embassy in the Myanmar capital of Yangon are behind the issuing of fake stamps for cash. The fake stamps have the word "utilized" spelled as "ulilized" They said he wanted to find out if the fake stamp saga led right to the embassy.

the cave heroes are at it again, helping those in distress,at the dam collapse in Laos.can't see elon there. not easy for the farang sitting behind his keyboard looking through the bottom of a beer glass, making nasty comments, like this one from Media1 @ thai visa: (So they should help the Thai army let genocide occur and even awarded a medal to a general. I don't call them heroes) let's hope he never needs there help.

The rescue of a baby boy, terrified and hungry after days without food, has been captured in a viral video showing the infant survivor of a dam collapse in southern Laos being carefully carried through swirling flood waters and waist-high mud. Footage of volunteers from Thailand rescuing 14 people, including the baby, went viral when it was released today as an increasingly international relief mission scrambles to save lives in a disaster that has left scores dead and missing. The survivors were stranded by floodwaters after they fled up a hill on Monday as the Xe-Namnoy dam broke under heavy rain, leaving several villages devastated by flash floods.

the hard to catch croc is real foxy,so much that a reward has been put up,international help might be the only solution,a reward will be offered to any tip offs that led to the crocodile being caught. might make sense to place a lady croc as bait on the beach, tied up of course.

i hope you guys went to the wat over the holiday maybe even give a donation to clear your sins. i have to limit my donation as i give to so many causes, what i do notice is the little old dears, the same ones all the time, giving what they can as they can barely afford it. the same old ladies who give alms every morning rain or shine but barely light, they are there giving, some buy food, water and give while others cook something and take.

not so lucky for some in Ubon Ratchathani where the floor collapsed and 23 were injured friday morning at Wat Pa Ubonkaew.the temporary floor collapsed sending the people about 6-7 metres to the ground.

23 injured in temple’s ubosot floor collapse

Unfortunately, there were too many people standing on the temporary plywood board floor which could not withstand the weight of the ceremony attendants and caved in.

Police however said that they would summon the contractor for questioning before a charge of negligence causing injuries to the other people would be filed against him.

Meanwhile, the temple administrator said that the temple would take care of the medical expenses of all the injured, including three who suffered fractured leg bones.  http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/23-injured-in-temples-ubosot-floor-collapse/

Hey nan they got the croc they crept up on him at 4am with a fishing net near Koh Kata off Layan Beach. He doesn't look that big at all, was the guys bragging as usual ;D

Gotcha! Phuket’s crocodile caught at Layan Beach

Phuket’s elusive crocodile has finally been caught at Layan Beach. The ‘Yanui’ crocodile (named by local Phuket reporters after the original beach it was sighted) has been caught at Layan Beach early today after more than ten days of search operations, sightings, drone photos and lots of people pointing out to sea.

The crocodile was eventually caught by the Surat Thani-based crocodile catching team and local fishermen at 4am with a fishing net near Koh Kata off Layan Beach. The crocodile is now being taken to the Phuket Coastal Fisheries Research and Development Centre in Pa Khlok.

Last year during August ‘Laypang’, a much larger crocodile, was caught at an inland lake in the same area after being sighted swimming offshore.

A new pair of shoes and a tasty beneficial meal. Crocodile meat has seen a surge in popularity in Thailand due to its alleged health benefits. The meat is believed to cure allergies & itches. Also, the leftover products of the animal are converted for medicinal purposes. This is good news for Thailand’s booming crocodile farms which rear around a million crocodiles. comments from the Hindustan Times

OK here's the crunch, why it took 12 days to catch the croc, with the weather being rough with waves as high as 3 metres, the croc liked to keep in waters at the same depth, once that was known they had a better idea where to look, they still don't know where it come from. there is an african village where animals live side by side in harmony.

The African Village Where Crocodiles and Humans Live Side by Side in Peace

In Burkina Faso, just 30 kilometers away from the capital of Ouagadougou, there is a small village of Bazoule, where its people — descendents of Mossis warriors — have chosen the Crocodylus suchus as its totem. Although Bazoule is located in a landlocked country, it does have its own pond, where 150 of these unusually docile creatures reside. Despite the fearsome reputation of crocodiles, the villagers have no problem living alongside them. In fact, the Mossi boldly approach the crocodiles to play; they even sit on and lie next to them.

Welcome to Bazoulé, the crocodiles' village!

the embezzlement of temple funds, that is really disgusting, money that the people give,i would like to think deep down in my heart, there must be a large percentage of good monks,as i know many at my local wat, giving to the needy at times and feeding the stray dogs. the temptation of money is just to great for some.

Police arrested six present and former senior officials of the National Office of Buddhism (NOB) at their homes in several provinces on Wednesday, just recently the Wat Sa Ket abbot was defrocked and sent to jail, last week Some 200 police commandos made coordinated raids on Buddhist temples on Thursday morning and arrested senior monks for alleged embezzlement. we are not talking about peanuts here but very large sums of money.

Police suspect Wat Sa Ket of embezzling money from two Buddhism-related projects worth 69 million baht. Money was transferred to outside people. Police said the abbot had 10 bank accounts and about 130 million baht had passed through them. All funds in the accounts were frozen. good to see they don't let the robe fool, like the cover of a book. read from the bangkokpost https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general/1513822/senior-buddhism-executives-arrested-for-alleged-fraud.

I did not yet see reason to alert my fellow Koratians, as it didn't look very realistic. Does it look more likely now? ;)

i have never worried about post count, contributions come from the heart they are free, sometimes it relieves your mind to either say/post something,to clear ones thoughts just a little. although i must say i do feel sorry for the lost souls, wandering in and out of a forum, looking for their perfect posting place, someone on the same wave length as them, that might listen and has also burnt most of their bridges or made themselves look rather silly at times, then they end up right back where they started from in the first place.

farangs living or surviving
oh! my my how times have changed, the rich farang is no more,in fact some Thais are much better off than farangs. the saying hansum man might dissapear as he gets poorer and poorer,it's a fact some are strugling, hows the extended thai family going to get by.i fear some tears. lets not right them all off as broke yet,as some use their filbert, but the way things are going it could come. one more battering on the exchange rate could make all the difference. even the trade war going on may lead to baht instability,be prepared, not a warning, more in the way of advice.watch your spending.

when you see the convenience stores selling more alcohol than the bars then something is wrong, not only the farang is not happy, what about the girls that work in the bar trade, their familys who they provide for will also go without. we can not live without money,or some partners just won't,hence the divorces are on a growing number thai/farang. this is not meant as an insult but reality and those with little means the best of luck.

is this the wake up call,it was never meant to be like this, even worse for the poor aging farangs with no health insurance, once over 70 seems impossible to get cover. thank god for the nice thai women as they are not all gold diggers. some people live for today and forget about tomorrow, you need to plan carfully. the sign of things to come, maybe higher requirements for visas, yes it could happen.all the prices are creeping up.

no good going back home that could be even worse, reading the news. now we have one hell of a gob making it worse by creating enemy's,not only at home but abroad, with the attitude of f.u.jack

now there's an invitation for the rich keyboard warriors or even the rusty old bikes to have a crack at my honest post :)

Thanks fer ur concern nan, it's not as bad yet, that could come though, if you come here on a wing and a prayer and lived on hope, you could end up at the temple at meal times. as for the rise in visa charges, yes that could happen being there are so many expats packing in, they have room to play with. I think the modest price of 1,900 bht 1 year ext. is kept at that low rate as they want all expats on their books, legally.

When i first come here as some will know, 74 bht.to the £. when i moved here in 2005 it was a steady 70 bht. to the £. in 2008 i visited uk and transfered money at 60 bht to the £. it's gone down ever since. today another drop, as you say in big mouth trade wars don't help. another factor to give jitters to the financial side of things is governments bickering amongst themselves.

I neither drink nor smoke and eat thai food, my wife has tooooooo much gold :-[ for me to go hungary.

Yes, keep hold of that gold.  As far as I understand it the amount of money invested in paper gold is about 100 times the value of physical gold.  Now, if we could suddenly create a panic which requires the paper gold holders to convert to physical gold then we could all become millionaires overnight.

farangs living or surviving

well nansy pansy you do stick you neck out, on this one i will agree with you. you will not get an expat to admit he is on the breadline, that might admit his defeat and made the wrong choice in living here. The same as an expat never marries a bargirl, oh no i met her on the internet. even my long time friend in pattaya sticks to his story, i met her in walking street she was washing up in a food resturant, was he eating in the kitchen then. but his wife talks to mine so i know the score, not that it really matters.

You have to do a survey anonymous of course to get anywhere near the truth, one was done on t.visa just a couple of days ago, which revealed the 23% of expats get by on less than 45,000 baht per month. that is if a t.visa survey is to be believed. 100 respondents are trying to survive on less than 25,000 baht thaiger will tell you more
