Being a Fat A*s in Thailand: What to Expect?

Greetings, all. I am looking into the possibility of living in Thailand for month for the purposes of pursuing a TEFL certification there.

Here's the deal. Four years ago I got hit hard with MS and a spine condition that left me bedridden for nearly 4 years despite continued medical intervention and extreme rehabilitation effort on my part. I was in a wheelchair for some time and just started walking again this year. Unfortunately, all of the steroids combined with a sedentary lifestyle and a lifelong thyroid problem left me FAT AS FU*K. Like circus fat, people. I have lost 60 pounds in the last two months, and I'm still working on it.

For those that know the landscape and culture, can a fat ass make it in Thailand alright? I would be in Chiang Mai and 10 minutes from my school, so that's not a worry. I don't mind people snickering at my extra large ass. Instead, I am more worried about public transport and the like. I don't want to kill some poor tut-tut driver, you know?

Cultural insights are welcome as well. Thanks!

You'll be fine for day to day stuff, people will see you as a customer first.

However Thai people among themselves absolutely ridicule and call out people who are even slightly overweight, one friend will tell another he or she has gotten really fat lately. A teacher will tell their student they are too fat and should lose weight. A girl I know who is mildly overweight by Thai standards (but still of a healthy weight by American standards) posted a picture of herself on the beach on facebook and her mom commented "beached wale" on it. The whole "accepting your body as it is" thing we have in the west doesn't exist there, shaming people for their weight is fair game.

LOL.  This guy is joking.  Thais have no qualms about pointing out any little physical blemish or fault on the human body. Be it one gray hair or slightly over weight, they'll make sure you know about it, especially if there are others around.

Yeah, but you can't make a profit when you're eating all the inventory.
