Another Thai superstition involving Knives
« on: July 31, 2015, 05:36:32 AM »
Even though, I've been here now for over fourteen years, I still learn something new about Thailand almost every week, day, month, etc.

Apparently there is some Thai superstition from the old school, that it's not good luck if you give a knife to a person.  They have to purchase it from you.  I never knew about this superstition until yesterday.  I was cleaning out my kitchen drawers and reorganizing everything.  I had fourteen assorted kitchen knives that I've collected over the years that I just don't use anymore.  I wrapped them up and took them over to my mother-in-law along with other utensils.  She told me she had to pay me for the knives.  I insisted they are free.  She wouldn't have it and gave me twenty baht.  Then she explained to me why.

I've never heard of this Thai superstition.  Have any of you?

Our member "Kitchen Knife " should, but he hasn't logged in since more than two years. Was he sold, or what?

Thai superstitions

Although i've heard some strange superstitions from the old school not come across that one bf but here's a couple that i have heard of.

1) When building a home, it's unlucky to have the number of steps 2.4.6 or 8. they have to be 3,5.7. or 9.

2) The children must not sleep on the side that the sun comes up first.

3) The front door must not be in line with the backdoor your money will disappear.

Feel free to add, plenty of room below.
Anyone who goes to a psychiatrist should have his head examined.

When shagging, if you do doggie style and face to the North Pole while doing the deed, your chances of having a baby girl increase.

When farting, if you align your as.s with the back door of the house, the bad luck from the air biscuit will exit out the back door.

If you dutch oven your wife at exactly midnight after eating pork for dinner, you will have nine years bad luck, not to mention a pop upside the back of your head from the wife.

TUT! TUT! you naughty boys. Don't pull out on thursdays. :evilgrin

i think this is because in ancient thailand, wednesday used to be considered the day of agriculture,a day of growing things.hence,as cutting is the opposite to growing,it was thought it would bring bad luck.

but i have had people pull out in front of me and on a thursday  ;D
