Don't want to sound too negative but the problems you will have regarding this business adventure will be at the UK end negotiating all the import business red-tap/import tax etc, not at the Thai end. If you go for it, then it's probably a good idea to go talk to some shop owners at Chachujak etc in BBK as many have factories in the north but sell in BBK.

Most people selling in Korat will be buying from these sort of places anyhow (or the Cambodian border markets), but if you are thinking of exporting then you have to send stuff to BBK anyway so might as well buy it there in the first place.

As for the pottery village in Dan Kwian , then really it's over priced and for tourists, both Thai and foreign. Better to go to BBK. Dan Kwian is OK if you want something fancy for your house but there are better places to go to and do what is being suggested here.

Shipping By Air
Shipping your items by air is by far the easiest option but also the most expensive. Expect to pay between 5-6x more to ship by air versus shipping by sea.

Personally, we use DHL for all of our international air shipments. Our vendors all have accounts with DHL and shipping with them is a breeze because they take care of everything.

Basically, the vendor provides DHL with all of the materials mentioned above and then DHL will transport all of your goods directly to the address that you specify. If this is your first time importing goods from overseas, you will be contacted by customs to provide your social security card or a company id number. Just have this information handy once your goods have shipped and you are all set.

DHL will also send you a bill so that you can pay any and all duties associated with your imported goods.

Silk comes in at least four weights and may be either machine or hand woven. It's become expensive because the cost of yarn is very high and then, of course, there's the exchange rate issue.

Mrs. saf has shipped silk to Europe and by EMS successfully.
