Tai Fah (electronics shops)

A typical experience with a local tradesman the other day turned into a great experience at Taifah, opposite Klang Plaza 2.

The tv on/off switch had been on the blink for a while and gave up the ghost a few mornings ago. Neither the remote control nor the manual switch would work. Mrs saf called a local tv repairer just after 7am and he said he would call later, 'phoning us first. I put the chances of that happening at around 50%. By 10.30, we had heard nothing and he was called again. He said that he would call during the afternoon. Chances now down to 5%.

At 5.00pm, I decided that the afternoon was over, I didn't want to be without as tv indefinitely and that we would go to The Mall to buy a new one. The old one, once repaired, would be the second one for Mrs saf's Thai soaps that I have wanted for a while!

The Mall was running an electronics show in the exhibition hall and we were run by salesmen between there and Powermall for nearly and hour as we compared the options. We finally settled on the first one we saw and returned to the salesman who had taken quite a lot of time to show it to us and explain it. He checked the stock book and told us that the one on display was the last of it's kind and refused to sell it to us. After all that time, most of which was spent repeating 'We don't want a smart tv', I was pissed off.

So, off to Taifah. They had the model we wanted and the owner (nice lady on the centre desk) gave us a discount better than the one offered in The Mall for the tv we couldn't buy. The pink umbrella was appreciated too! The tv arrived and was set up the next morning. The guys offered to take the non-functioning set back for repair. It came back to us the next morning with a new switch fitted and the explanation that lizard eggs had caused the problem.

Hats off to Taifah and the lady owner! Most excellent care and service.

Hello Saf,
Klang Plaza 2 - is that one East of Yamoo or the one next to the big Post Office / Chaopraya Hotel ?
Anyway, we too had quite brilliant service from Tai Fah City - BIG shop - (travelling South along Yamoo, 100 metres down the third turning left). They fitted new aircons in new positions for us on two occasions. Quality and tidiness of work was EXEMPLARY - certainly better than I would have got in UK. Excellent value and customer care. Good to hear.

To help clearing the confusion:

To my knowledge there are three electronics shops of Tai Fah Motors in town.

Tai Fah Electronic Universe - the one next to Ginza and opposite Klang Plaza 2 on Chomsurang Road and near Chomsurang Post Office, and not so far from Chaopraya Hotel - is the newest.

Tai Fah Electronic City - the one on Chompol Road and close to Yamo, in the building Pata Department Store used to be, next to Siam Commercial Bank - is the biggest.

Tai Fah Electronic Plaza - in the street parallel to Night Bazar, one block towards Yamo - was their first electronics shop as I remember.

I haven't bought at Tai Fah Universe yet, but was always happy with service and deals at both the others. Especially positive I found that they make sure their employees do have a good command of English and do only give info they actually know of, not just babble to make you buy. If there is a problem, one of the managers, who all belong to the owners family, helps with a fast and unbureaucratic solution. It is advisable though to have a look at the prices at the other Tai Fah shops before you decide to buy, because they're not always the same. They're sometimes quite different in their special offers (for clearance). If you can tell them an item you want to buy is cheaper at one of their other shops they're ready to sell to you at the same reduced price. That helped me save quite a lot already.

That's the one - Universe as described by JF.

When my house was built, nearly all of the appliances were supplied by this same store. Quite a lot was ordered on the same day, I did a discount deal for cash with the owner and the goods were all delivered the next day. Anything you want them to fit and install they will do. A customer record is kept on computer so they know exactly what you have bought from them.

If I was aiming to negotiate a deal I would make sure that the lady owner is there. No staff have authority to go beyond the ticket price.

I was especially pleased with the quick repair and return of the old tv which wasn't bought from Taifah. I expected it to take days if not weeks. Until then, I didn't know that Taifah had a repair workshop. I'll remember that next time something goes pop.

About 15 years ago I needed a warranty repair of a wash machine I had bought at Taifah City: the door lock needed replacement. The manufacturer Zanussi did have problems delivering the part. So after about tthree weeks waiting at Taifah they took out the part from one of their new wash machines on stock to replace the defect lock in mine. Most other shops I know just would have told me to wait for Zanussi to deliver the part, no matter how much longer that would take.

I think it was the city shop that i bought a shower from.
Fitted same day and they even came round next day to make sure it was working ok. Nothing but praise for the service. Sales staff even spoke English
