What field of legal knowledge are you looking for (property, litigation, visa, family etc.)? Do you need a lawyer who can speak reasonable English, or perfect English? What are your timescales?

Getting a lawyer who is has knowledge and experience of the area of law you are concerned with is very important: the last thing you want is to spend money on someone who, on hearing the issue, rushes to the legal library to 'learn-up' on the subject. You will not be reimbursed for their lack of knowledge.

Also, bear in mind only Thai nationals can act for you as a lawyer in Thailand: foreigners can act as intermediaries (and can use their knowledge of Thai law to assist), and can act in international issues, but cannot represent you in court or prepare Thai legal documents. I am not suggesting you do not consider using a firm where you deal with a non-Thai, as most of the big international firms in BKK have non-Thai lawyers as part of their senior management teams, but establish the credentials of the actual Thai lawyers if you do.

KK sorry to hear you need a Lawyer. (Don't we all !)
I was lucky and found a Thai Lawyer 5 years ago who speaks excellent English - he is a decent and sympathetic Guy.
He recently qualified as a Judge too I believe.
Send a PM and I'll pass on the details.

Family law is what I need one for, that can speak English and is not afraid to get in & fight for their client.

Roger, I seem to remember a topic on here a few months ago about a lady lawyer that was married to a falang & I thought it was either you or babyface that knew her. Does that ring any bells for you?

I did a search but all I got was about some fake falang lawyer in Korat.

Mrs KK got a lawyer and IMO she is as useful as tits on a bull.

I will wait for your replies Gentlemen.

Thank you very much for your help. :wai

KK.

Try Veena! To my knowledge she was married to a Brit. Though I haven't met her for a long time, I found her to be committed and qualified.

Sorry Admin, I put this in the wrong section.

No problem at all in this forum. I just moved your post to help readers find the information collected in this thread easier, optimize the lay-out for other information-seeking people. It's fully appropriate to post in that forum designed for questions first. People notice new questions there on top of the index page better. :)

We were fearing the visit to the Amphur in Korat this morning, the visit to transfer and complete house purchase followed by the registration of a Usufruct for my benefit.

Our Lawyer Khun Mam from Korat Law Office made the process so simple and streamlined for us.

We were in the Amphur for just under 60 minutes and all completed with smiles all round.

The total cost for the Korat Law work was just 15,000 Baht - including initial negotiations with U-Sabai, dual sale & purchase contracts ( Thai & English ) the drawing up of the Usufruct ( Thai & English ) and Amphur paperwork.

In the end the Usufruct was for written up to run for my Lifetime - it is all written and stamped up in the Chanote.

Mam made the process so easy for us.... something that the House Development company could well do to 'Polish Up' on!!
