We all know how difficult it can be to find a Thai lawyer with experience and good reputation who speaks English well and understands the needs of foreign clients. Korat, as one example, has very few who fit that specification and are also independent of other parties. Any lawyer may accept a foreigner as a client but does he have the right connections to help with some of the problems peculiar to expat. life here? Also, my own experience is that it's better to use a law firm remotely located from any of my own personal connections or any other party involved in the issue at hand.
Here's a law firm in Pattaya that specialises in working for foreigners:
http://www.pattayalawfirm.com/If you ever need legal advice, at least call the office to see what they might do.
Note also the book keeping and accountancy service.
I had an opportunity to chat with principal lawyer from this firm, Mr.Thanawit.
The firm has two offices in Pattaya and deals with clients in all directions from there, including far flung corners of Isaan. I know that he is prepared to travel to see clients so you don't have to be in or travel to Pattaya. Mr. Thanawit is fluent in English and certainly seems to know his stuff. I was interested to know what services he offers that are especially relevant to farang and this is the gist of what he told me:
General law consultations and litigation.
Translation (Thai- English).
Notary.
Visa services - retirement, student, business, conversion from tourist to non-immigrant, temporary visa renewal, visa renewal in Laos and Cambodia, re-entry permit, advice on overstay and bank balance problems.
Bank accounts for foreigners.
Marriage registration.
Company formation.
Wills.
Mr. Thanawit is very easy to talk to and in tune with the legal needs of foreigners in Thailand. Definitely worth calling when you might need legal advice.
