Crap service at Bangkok Hospital Korat.

My daughter needs treatment, preferably surgery. St Mary's 'no have' surgeon to carry out the procedure. Phoned BKK Hospital, told Paediatric surgeon only works Saturday 4 til 6, "phone Saturday morning to confirm surgeon is working". Did that, but they cannot contact the surgeon to confirm she's working. Eventually get a call at 1:30pm to say it's all go, but she is only there for 1 hour, 4 til 5. It takes 2 hours to drive to Korat arriving at 4pm. She never arrived. Told various times that she will be here soon. Come 5:40pm we gave up and walked out for the 2 hour drive back home. We were the only people waiting to see her. A total wasted fcuking day.
This is not the first time that that overpriced shit-hole has told me lies. Does anyone rate the place ? I certainly don't.

Try the Medical Centre at Suranaree University of Technology. It's not fully built and equipped yet but you may be lucky.

Enquiries: 044 223600

Emergencies: 044 223699

From the 304, take the turn near the Korat Zoo junction into the university area. Keep right at the fork in the road, go through the security gate, past the right turn and the Centre is a couple of hundred yards on the right.

Saf is spot on.  The Hospital at SUT is not only good, but a lot cheaper than the other hospitals.

Thank you for both replies. My wife is reluctant to let a learning hospital practice on our daughter. It doesn't bother me but to keep the peace....................
She now wants to try the Maharaj hospital in Korat. Any opinions on that place ?

Try to explain to your wife that a research and teaching facility with professors certainly puts more effort in quality service than a "mass factory" like Maharat. But in the end there will be the same doctors treating. They usually got jobs at more than one hospital. That's why they're present only at certain times.

If Khon Kaen isn't too far for you I'd recommend Srinakarin Hospital, the Khon Kaen University Hospital. My brother-in-law was treated there after his accident. They did an excellent job at decent prices while doctors at Maharat had given up and wanted to amputate his arm. IMO they had screwed up at Maharat. Luckily the staff at Srinakarin Hospital could fix part of that again.

I've never heard a good thing said about Maharat but I've heard plenty of bad things.

Is the medical Centre at SUT a teaching hospital? I didn't think it was. SUT has a medical faculty but the Medical Centre is not in the main campus area.

The doctors actually work at other hospitals then go to SUT in the evenings and on weekends.  The facility is probably a teaching place, but for receptionists, etc.....stuff like that.  Many of the people employed there now used to work at BBK hospital.

There are doctors at the Medical Centre SUT all day giving a normal hospital treatment. It has a 24 hour emergency service and ambulances stand waiting for calls outside. I don't know how for the day time service has developed at the moment but anyone interested can call and ask.

The evening consultancy service, I have been told by the manager, is manned by doctors from other hospitals. I think that it is a temporary measure until the Centre's own facilities are further developed

Correct, Saf.  Just spoke with the wife.  It will be nice once the entire facility is completed.

Anything properly serious or worrisome, especially regarding a child, then I would consider going to BBK.

Horses for course though.

The hospitals in Korat are OK for many things but I'm sure everyone who has lived here for a while has heard disconcerting stories about the services here at most of them. Maharat is a university instructing hospital that's packed-out by Thais, St. Mary's is hit-and-miss (good dentist though), Korat Memorial is a cosmetic alteration hospital for women really that pretends to offer other services, BBK Hospital in Korat is OK if it's not a serious condition and you don't mind spending lots of money as it masquerades as a 5 star hotel with nurses instead of waitresses, and the one at or near SUT I can't comment on.......might be OK as others have said but would probably depend on how serious your case was, especially if the hospital isn't finished.

Nothing guaranteed at any of them here in Korat, I reckon.

It is true, as mentioned already, that many of the doctors here work at different hospitals in Korat at certain times and there's a good chance of being seen by the same doctor at different hospitals.

I too have heard of good reports regarding the military hospital. Will probably give it a try on Wednesday. Will report back as soon as I can.

I remember years ago, they used to have a karaoke piano dude in the lobby.....you wouldn't even know it was a hospital.

Yep, it's still there, only it was a woman today. At the far end, as you go toward the vehicle exit, they were even holding a singing contest.
Forget Bangkok Hospital and St Mary's, this hospital is brilliant. I couldn't fault anything. Service and cleanliness was exceptional. Anyone that uses the private hospitals, must have money to burn. The Military Hospital gets 10 out of 10 in my book any day.

Good to know about the Military hospital. While we are on the hospital talk then I found out recently that the place under construction on the left after Neo House home store (past the TOT main office where immigration used to be) on Mitrapharb Rd heading towards Bangkok is going to be another hospital too, but don't know it's completion date though.

Looks like it'll be big. If anyone knows more about this place then don't keep it to yourself.
