Buying Meds in Korat
« on: January 03, 2014, 08:53:00 PM »
Apologies if this has been posted before, just a heads up to all you boardies that require meds either on a regular basis or a one off. I recently went to BH for a problem and needed meds, the cost 4560bht from the hospital pharmacy. I thought wayyyyyyyyy thats expensive, so informed them i would source elsewhere. Went to Siam pharmacy, same meds from GSK 2410bht.

Now thats 2150bht that i can spend more enjoyably ehh............

Hi there Chimera,

Thanks for the Tip....  For those of us who do not know Korat quite so well, would you remind us where Siam Pharmacy is located - Thanx in advance...

Now i was afraid someone would ask that !!! despite living here for 7 years my knowledge of "where places actually are" is somewhat limited, i can drive to them but what road they are in is clouded in mystery. I usually ask for a landmark and in this case its in the road off Yamo where they sell all the flowers, its next to a carpark about 1 Km in from Yamo going towards the Sima Thani hotel. I think it may be the biggest pharmacy in Korat judging by how busy it is no matter when you go, its staffed with loads of employees and has English speaking staff and i've never waited long to be served and they appear to stock just about anything.

Perhaps some of our more learned boardies will know a better way to direct you.

The name of the road is Pho Klang. It starts almost opposite the Yamo statue heading west. A couple of hundred metres or so on the left is a car park and the pharmacy is the very next building after that.

You got it 'Saf'.

I would advise anyone buying expensive meds or a lot to go to Siam. Hospitals here are a business interested in maximising profits and meds are a good earner, especially if you can get patients to pay rip off prices.

Hospitals, at least BKK, buy supplies from Siam. They are bound to mark up their prices and, in the case of BKK, the hospital overheads are probably a tad higher than those of Siam.  :) Why buy meds. from a hospital when they are available from pharmacies?

I recently had a two night stay in bk hospital, the surgeons fee was 30,000 bht fair enough, the room 3,900 bht
a night, that was fine. but when i got the bill it came to 82,000 bht with the meds & nurse care.

Yes the meds r indeed "PANG"

I guess it's not easy to pop down to a pharmacy when a young nurse has you pinned to the bed!

Bought my pills in Siam Pharmacy for B660 - that compares with B1200 at BKK Hospital.
Similar saving to Chimera - thanks for the excellent tip.

Glad its of benefit to you guys and anyone who has to buy meds on a regular basis. Everytime i've ever been there which is often over the last few years there packed to the gunnels, i've never seen so many customers in one shop, the service is excellent, never waited more than a few minutes to be served and whatever i've wanted they've had.

I tip me hat to them :cheers

Pharmacies are plentiful in Korat.  They are every where just like mini-marts.  Some even sell Valium and Xanax. Tsk tsk.
