Hi Thaiga,
Yes, there are several private rooms but also an outdoor courtyard where the lady was singing.  Thanks for posting the phone number.  Useful for getting directions.  The “Map Here” tab does not seem to work.

Tonight we tried somewhere different: Wangfah Garden.

It was very good and TA rated #61 in Nakhon Ratchasima.  We had prawns & oysters and some small fried fish very similar to whitebait.  There was entertainment from a lady singer/guitarist.  It definitely gets the TT seal of approval and we will be going back.

The only problem is finding the place. You turn left off Mittraphap just before you get to Bangkok Hospital.  Maybe there is a map somewhere but could not find one.

We tried a new place tonight which is #62 in Nakhon Ratchasima: The Barn Restaurant, Korat.

I would say that the #62 rating is a little on the generous side.  Pity, since the place is only about 1 km from where we live.

Thaiga, I have been retired for 1 month so definitely time to get a new job!  I got an O visa in HK which should become a Work Visa in the next week.  The Thai Consulate in HK was quite good.  They now want photos with a white background. Previously they never seemed bothered about photo format.

I came across The China Bar during my trip this week. Conveniently located just behind my hotel.  Interesting to note the opening hours: 4pm - 6.30am. These Chinese do not mess about.  The food was very good. I had a Thai beef salad and seafood spaghetti. The staff are very friendly.  The bar is located on Knutsford Terrace which is a narrow pedestrian street. There are lots of other bars and restaurants in the street.  The flight to Hong Kong is only about 2.5 hours from BKK so is almost on the doorstep.

The Giant

The Giant
The Giant is one of the most unusual restaurants in Thailand. It is located in the top of a gigantic tree! The Giant is a great place to enjoy the atmosphere of one of Thailand’s many unusual dining spots. The only problem being is to access this unique restaurant in Chang Mai is across an elevated bamboo rope bridge, great views while being shaded by the trees. Not what you call a restaurant more of a experience. they serve coffee, cakes, and a few tasty dishes, or you can just sit and sip. this unusual restaurant also features a simple zip-line to a nearby tree platform. It costs THB 200 for a zip-line trip. not for the faint hearted. Interesting but a bit of a way from us guys in Korat but lets you know whats around. a 90-minute drive from the city of Chiang Mai, while heading towards the east in the district of Mae On, will lead you to a small village in the middle of the jungle, called Pok Village. think i'll just view the vid.

Baan Pok Village Huai Kaew Subdistrict, Mae On, Thailand Tel: +66(0)53317677 +66(0)7762946
reservations advised on weekends. Best visited between 11 am and 3 pm.

Run out of most dishes
Took 3 attempts to order as they had run out of what we wanted. Staff all lounging around playing on their phones. Cakes tasted very cheap despite being reasonably expensive. Did not feel clean.

nice panorama
The road to the Coffee was more spektakular and wonderful, than the Coffee. At the road you can see many of Ricefields, nice little villages and coffeebars. The panorama with the mountains was beautiful, the personal dont speak english.

Coffee house in a giant tree house on a peak with views
Go here for the beautiful location, the view down the valley and the impressive treehouse structure into which this coffee shop is built. We didn't have anything to eat or drink so can't comment on the quality. The road was quite rough and winding to get there and it was raining so kind of messy the day we went there.

For the price we were dissapointed
the fact that he has been visiting the same restaurant for 15 years is a recommendation in it self
would he put up with the bad service if the prices were not so high. speaks for itself and himself

The success of a restaurant relies on its staff, so the turnout of the food will differ on different chefs, but the regular staff that serve the food should make sure everyone gets their plate within at least a few mins of each other, nothing worse than sitting there, drooling looking into someone elses plate, as they are eating, embarassing for them as well.

the dissapointment comment. the guy has had 15 good years service and won't be going back again over one thing. he must lead the perfect life. or was it the price as he goes on to say, For the price, we were disappointed.

The Great Hornbill Grill a scenic country styled restaurant is located amidst the vineyards of PB Valley Khao Yai Winery the birthplace of the Khao Yai Wine Region and one of the finest wineries in Thailand.

The Great Hornbill Grill & Restaurant

They certainly have there fair share of eaterys, restaurants, bars, in the pak chong area. The Great Hornbill Grill & Restaurant is one of many, situated in the PB Valley Khao Yai winery area, choose a table that overlook the vineyard with great mountains in the background. they serve Thai and Western dishes, after the winery tour sit and relax, enjoy the view of the Dong Phaya Yen mountains. a kids friendly and unhurried atmosphere with the menu full of exquisite selections. a good family day out. theres a 10% discount on the food after showing the entrance fee for the winery tour.  Lots of parking.

Multi-activities place
A good place for good variety of food. Both Thai and Western dishes are cooked with good standard. People are friendly. There's also vineyard tour, fruits stands and local products available. Family will have good time here

Enjoyable food and wine with a pleasant view
We throughly enjoyed our lunch at this restaurant. We went to visit the winery and decided to stay for lunch. We had not booked but managed to get a table easily

For over 15 years we have thought this one of the top restaurants in Khao Yai. The last visit was disappointing. We ordered a salad as a starter. The salad did not show up. Food for our group was delivered to the table with at least 10 minutes between each person receiving their meal. The pork knuckle was cut up deep fried pork. Not what was served in the past. The restaurant still has one of the best views, and the service staff are friendly, but the level of detail and food quality has diminished. For the price, we were disappointed. The variety and choice of restaurants in Khao Yai is large, and for the pricing, we will find alternatives for our next visit

Flying Chicken Restaurant

moving away for a comercial break and a bit of fun, we visit the Flying Chicken Restaurant. but are they chickens, i wouldn't chance eating the curry afterwards if they are. but one of the comments states The Chickens no longer fly, true or not, don't know. The video was uploaded Jan 14, 2018. the chicken show starts 8.30. he could of got there too late, (stopping to watch the bus drivers urinate) see comments below.

Ka-tron (aka The Flying Chicken)‘s address is:
99/1 Moo 2 Bang Na, Trad Rd Km 1, Bang Na, Bangkok 10260
Phone Number: (023) 995 202; (023) 993 557
Website: Ka-Tron Restaurant

The Chickens no longer fly
Caught the train from Si Lom and walked from the station in the dark, about 45 minutes dodging barking and snarling dogs, bus drivers urinating finally finding this restaurant. To be advised the flying chickens no longer fly due to this being a dangerous activity (that is why we went). We did not eat just had a drink. The staff were kind enough to flag down two taxis to get us back to the station, which I am eternally grateful.

Fun, fun, fun!
It's almost like being on a crazy Japanese game show. Seeing the waiters riding unicycles and trying to catch flying chickens with their helmets is already a surreal vision. Trying to do it by yourself is even more unbelievable – but the best part is: the chicken tastes great!

Great fun, the chickens are still flying!
The flying chicken show is still going and visitors are welcome to have a try! There is live music, and karaoke booths if you feel so inclined, recommended for a fun night out.

The Lecker Lecker

The Lecker Lecker, we don't just pick out the best restaurants, in this thread, so it's the good the bad and the ugly, some restaurants may not look up to your expectations, but could have the best food you ever tasted, so it might be, suck it and see and everyones taste is different. although Lecker Lecker is a small restaurant with a friendly owner the food is said to be excellent, Probably the best Bratwurst you have had. Lecker Lecker is a spotlessly clean, comfortable restaurant serving Westerners and Thai alike with delicious beef steaks tender, lean and cooked perfectly. For a little under 200 baht you can get a big portion of crispy snitchzel served with mashed potato and tasty red wine gravy. Included in the price is a salad starter with homemade wholegrain bread, which you can also order and buy to take home. well that takes some beating.

Open Tues-sat 10am till 9pm - closed sunday & monday. +66 80 152 6381 website with location

comments from their facebook page

Probably the best ribs in Thailand! First class beer and service! If you ever in korat this is the place to eat like a king!

I recommend going to eat pasta, pizza and much more from Lecker Lecker: everything is yummy!!! And then a lot of sympathy and courtesy.

Pizza , Excellent, Lasagna , Very Good, Fish and Chip , European style, Seafood Spaghetti, Very Good, We will be back, very close to The Change Condo

Although the location is far from central, the restaurant is spotlessly clean and cozy. A well rounded menu of food, including Pizza, German, Steaks and other offerings all looked very good.

O&D Pub & Restaurant

Oh! no i missed out the O&D Pub & Restaurant, can't have that it's one of our members favourite haunts, with it's hidden gem of a German cuisine restaurant. Know to most for the outstanding food and service. it has homemade bread, fine sauces and is highly recomended.  Big Screen for viewing pleasure and a nice little bar. moderately priced. good reviews all round for this place that's known for it's best western food in the area. Fantastic range of beers, many of which are imported. Is this the no.1 place i ask myself, can't see any complaints in the comments, but you never know with this outfit t/a.

Interesting that Banmaichaichaynam is #2 in Nakhon Ratchasima and Suan Muang Porn is #4.  Suan Muang Porn looks to be a difficult place to get to, so it is almost certainly like Banmaichaichaynam in that it’s customers are mainly from coach parties from nearby resorts.  So if you choose a restaurant based on its TripAdviser rating you might just find yourself in amongst a bunch of coach parties.

Suan Muang Porn Restaurant - Please! please! no comments on the name - not a clear video but will give you some idea

The good the bad the ugly, Suan Muang Porn Restaurant, there could be a vacancy here if your looking for a job, as one comment say, they are understaffed, looks like could do with a lick of paint. a lot of these places are perched on the waters edge, plenty of mossis to feed on you while your there. if you like looking into the dam this is the place for you, plenty of flies reported, maybe the live entertainment attracted them. still open who knows, although the last review was 2 April 2018. Their website has been suspended. no not for me though.

The ambience is quite nice. We thought that food was of average quality and prices were not too high. However, we felt that their service can be improved upon - believe that they are understaffed.

Beautiful view.
It's very unfortunate for us to arrived after sunset. Although we still managed to take few pictures before the sky turns dark. But beware of mosquitoes!! It bitten my legs and it's very itchy. They should provide mosquito coils under each dining table to prevent...More

Great first hand review from taman tun for the The Banmaichaynam. fire hazard you say, there's plenty of water on hand if you happen to get a burnt offering, Two good points for The Banmaichaynam the food and also the service you said were good.

I can confirm that the Banmaichaichaynam still exists.  Mrs TT and I were coming back from BKK earlier in the year. It was early afternoon and Mrs TT wanted to eat.  We came off the main road and cruised through Koh Kaew where all the places were closed.  We were directed to Banmaichaichaynam where the grump on car park duty tried to persuade us that it was closed.  The ravenous Mrs TT told him that it was definitely open, which it was.
The restaurant is perched high above a bend in the river and serves Thai food.  The food and service were good.  As mentioned in the TA review the restaurant features a huge collection of oddities from bygone years.  One particular object which caught my eye was a bronze statuette of a couple performing what the French call soixante-neuf. I did wonder how a place so obscurely located could make a living. The answer to this became obvious when we were leaving.  Some coach parties were just arriving, presumably from the local resorts.  So, it is possible that later in the evening service is not so good. Also, mosquitoes from the river might be a problem.

Engineer TT had a few observations which may or may not be of interest:-

The river terrace of the restaurant is supported by piling which you can see fleetingly in one of Thaiga’s photos. The piling did not look too good to me.

PRM (Persons of Reduced Mobility, the PC term for disabled and cripples). Access requirements for buildings are set out in the Americans with Disabilities Act, amongst other legislation. The restaurant is definitely not ADA compliant as there are awkward stairs everywhere.

Fire.  The whole building is a warren of rooms of timber construction. Definitely a serious fire hazard.

The TripAdvisor listings for Korat do not seem to be keeping up with the times.  Places which do not appear are Super Seafood and Hop Beer Bar which I mentioned the other day.  There is also a new place called Beat Bar next to Annyeong.  It seems quite lively with a young crowd and live music.  Despite the young crowd it is definitely ADA compliant.  There is also a new restaurant at the 5 ways crossroads..can’t quite remember the name Ban....? Good place to watch the traffic.

No sign of andy, so we move on after the pizza adverts.
Moving on to number 2 in tripadvisors rankings for Korats top 10 restaurants being moderately priced. The Banmaichaynam fascinating decor this place has, plenty to look at bit like a museum, even has old fashioned pinball machines, toys and playthings, could be a family day out, very inviting place by looking at the pics. The good the bad the ugly in the comments

The Banmaichaynam
21 Moo 11, Koh Kaew Village, Pak Chong Subdistrict, Pak Chong chai

Good food
Good food, authentic Thai food and tasty. But staff are lazy, lazy to say even Hello, have to call them many times to ask 1 glass and dessert menu. Beer glasses and water glasses are very dirty.

Impressive Collectible Musuem
One of the must-visit when in Khao Yai, a quaint place with retro decoration. There’s lots of collectible item, life size mannequins, traditional figurine and toys. This is also one of the place with good photo opportunities, we spend about 1 hours to take photos around the restaurant!

Food wise, it was delicious local Thai food. Price also pretty fair and inexpensive. The only drawback was most of the servant have difficulties to understand English, as one of the item we ordered was out of stock, they tried to tell us in Thai but we don’t really get them till the next table local Thai couple translate it for us. But overall the dining experience as still good.

This place is quite hidden, it’s better to pre-booked the driver / tour else it will be difficult to locate the restaurant

Quirky place but out of the way
Took awhile to travel here but place is worth a visit. Like a massive museum with tons of things to see, and a restaurant by the river. Food was pretty good but some bugs and mozzies will haunt your legs during the meal.

Interesting place to visit with families.

So we had better check out these restaurants that tripadvisor recommends and make sure they are there, so a wasted journey and a rumbling tum doesn't happen. where's the best place to start, yes of course Korat. So over time i will post the top ten they recommend, if you've been there for a meal or even know anything strange like it's in the bottom of someones garden, do let us know, good or bad.

Here's the start of the top ten listed for Korat

I am sure the one listed as Chez Andy Swiss Restaurant & Steak House is there, heard some good reports about that. some time ago, anyone been there lately. some comments below from tripadvisor.

Chez Andy Swiss Restaurant & Steak House (Steakhouse, Swiss, Pizza, European, International, Thai)
Ban Kob Kaew, Manat Road | Nai Mueang, Nakhon Ratchasima 30000, Thailand   +66 44 289 556

It's been a while since I was last at Chez Andy's but I remember the relaxing atmosphere with both an inside and outside area for dining, caring service personnel, well managed, and excellent food. It is a European tailored Restaurant with matching prices. July 9, 2018

Very extensive menu with many European favourites. Also, plenty of thai options. I had rosti very good as was my wife’s chicken Penang & spring greens in oyster sauce. Plenty of choice of beers & a decent wine list - by the bottle expensive. June 27, 2018

The Premier Steak House
Just had the norwgian salmon and the filet steak finishing with crepe suzette. The crepes were not flambee at the table, but this has been an excellet meal. On my next visit to Korat, this restaurant will be on my list to revist.June 17, 2018

very entertaining i must give a thanks to you guys, you realy do find the content.

Why was it the perfect restaurant, what was the big draw of the shed, it was the combination of excellent reviews and always fully booked. You literally couldn’t get a table. which made it the perfect restaurant. i always go to the best restaurants to eat, why, they are always fully booked. so inexpensive, in fact no cost at all.

grabbing and scratching when this wonderful thing of nothing is waved in front of us, are we all online tourists trying to get a seat in a ghost restaurant that doesn't realy exist, as our eyes and mind imagine it to be. bit like that great forum some choose to put there content in. only to find out on looking back at what there no longer involved or respected in, is even better, but there choice was led there by others.

Tripadvisor reviews tell us about the way we live, thats when the truth appears ha! ha!.

Here is interesting tale of how someone turned his garden shed into the best restaurant in London.
