Robbers get stick from ex-para, 88
« on: January 29, 2012, 01:48:05 AM »
A HAVE-A-GO pensioner clouted a masked bank robber so hard with his walking stick that it BROKE.
Ex-para Gordon King, 88, said: "I didn't think twice."

Grandad Gordon waded in after spotting two men in balaclavas ambush a security van outside his local Lloyds TSB branch.

He struck one thief repeatedly over the head — but the second robber pushed him to the ground. The pair fled in a stolen Mercedes with the cash box.

Widower Gordon, of Bath, Somerset, said: "I gave him a whack. Then I gave him a few more and broke my stick. I'd have laid him out but this other robber pushed me down in the road."

The retired cop — who was treated in hospital for a bang to the head — added: "Afterwards I did think they could have had a gun. But I'd do it again."

Police chief David Gill said: "Mr King should be highly commended. He acted on instinct with no fear for his own safety."
Anyone who goes to a psychiatrist should have his head examined.
