Port Talbot

There has been lots of stuff in the UK press about the closure of the Port Talbot steel works.  One article in the Guardian had a superbly grouchy comment from a "JL Madison"  So a big round of applause for Mr. Madison:-

What part of ' globalisation' don't the ( perpetually ) ' 25 years behind the rest of the world ' Welsh not understand this time.  We haven't suddenly & unexpectedly woken into a global economy - it's decades long ... - but there they stand - looking puzzled & seriously thinking that someone's going to buy that now useless place - and even more stupidly , them.  Anyone in Port Talbot who hasn't started looking for another, even minimum wage job is a fool. Someone might eventually buy to asset strip it , but don't the workers know they are finished ? You'd think there must be one or two bright sparks out of 10,000.  Amazing .  I feel a sympathy, pity - not empathy - but no more than I feel for any of the 800,000 Chinese being ' laid off ' under much worse conditions in China.
We are masters of the unsaid words, but slaves of those we let slip out. Churchill
