Liverpool fans in police probe over racist abuse of Oldham player
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which reportedly took place during the two sides' FA Cup clash last night.
The 20-year-old defender turned to confront the supporter in question after becoming visibly upset by the comments from the terraces.
Following the game, which saw Liverpool run out 5-1 winners, he gave a statement to the police.
According to reports, eyewitnesses heard one fan shouting 'You f****** black b******' at the player.
'I was standing to the right of the Kop End, and the number 11 (Adeyemi) turned to walk away after a tackle,' an unnamed individual is quoted by the Daily Mirror.
'I heard a single voice behind me shout "You f****** black b******".
'He spun round with shock on his face and started pointing at the crowd, from where the shout had come.'
Liverpool players offered their support to Adeyemi with captain Steven Gerrard comforting him on the pitch.
A statement from Merseyside police read: 'Merseyside Police can confirm that no one has been arrested this evening on suspicion of racially aggravated behaviour during tonight’s FA Cup fixture at Anfield.
'However, the force and Liverpool Football Club are investigating following an incident that occurred during the second half of the game.'
