Clinic to prepare Thai women for life abroad
« on: August 10, 2017, 06:37:04 PM »
The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and Khon Kaen University have launched a clinic to help Thai women married to foreigners better prepare for a life abroad.

Dusadee Ayutwat, an associate professor at the department of sociology and anthropology, said the clinic is especially designed for Thai women in the Northeast to handle challenges they may face when moving overseas.

The clinic has been introduced due to a growing trend of Thai women marrying foreign men and living overseas. It is to help them prepare for cross-cultural marriages, maintain healthy relationships and ensure they receive proper treatment.

Ms Dusadee said the women will also be informed of cultural differences, family laws as well as how and where they can seek assistance if they run into problems overseas. "The clinic focuses on women in the Isan [Northeast] given the growing number of women there marrying Westerners. Some of these women believe marrying Westerners will give them a better life and financial security, which is quite a misconception," she said.

Ms Dusadee said research findings by the university suggest financial security is an illusion. According to the findings, most foreign men married to Thai women are low-to-middle income earners, but they seem to have a lot to spend when they are here due to the lower cost of living. She said the clinic will also reach out to the families of the Thai women to help them understand the situation and not pressure their daughters who are expected to provide after marriage.

She said clinic staff will visit communities in the Northeast and hold forums for them to exchange information.

That misconception isn't a problem for the women only, the men suffer at least as much, when there is no way to fulfill the girl's dreams.

Interesting. A while back I watched a U.K. tv programme about a couple of elderly Brits who got Thai brides over the Internet. It was obvious from the start that one of these relationships was not going to work. The guy had a nice enough bungalow in suburbia. But where are the street vendors, where is the street food? Nothing to be seen but dreary suburbia and bad weather.  No motorcy taxis, no songtels.  The lady quickly got bored with that.  The guy probably thought he was doing her a big favor by rescuing her from "poverty". That programme should be compulsory viewing for Thai ladies who think that all is milk and honey in the West.
If the old only could, if the young only knew.

Most of the couples i know where the guy so called rescued the girl from poverty  ::) and drags her back to his country, the girls have to work there to make ends meet, mind you some take up so called massage jobs  ;D

Some of these guys know nothing of relationships or even think of the girl being happy out of her environment,
BUT .. if she is not happy, the guy will suffer to, WHY did she leave me was the cry :spin
Anyone who goes to a psychiatrist should have his head examined.

how smart do you have to be not to realize it is all about money/bettering ones life, nothing to do with love on the side of the one who has nothing. have a look round at the odd couples you see, the farang 50 plus, bald, fat and not attractive, the thai girl Beautiful slim 20 years younger.

he may think he loves her but really he loves what he see's, and so does what is in his pants, all his christmas's have come at once, for a while that is. now if he had nothing to offer he would still be on his own.

love can grow only after time
