a spiritual connection
Most men in Thailand become a monk for a period of time before age 20 to receive good karma and merit.
where would we be without faith, buddhism like most faiths does keep a lot of people on the straight and narrow. some believe that if they do good, good will come back for them. giving food is one of the most oldest and common rituals, some are under the belief, give in this life never go hungry in the next.

Big Buddha Phuket 2020.
Most schools of Buddhism have rituals involving food. bit like what we call saying grace, before a meal. There are several chants that are done before and after meals meaning a thankyou for the food consumed. eating is more than just taking in nourishment, a gratitude is given.
gratitude develops patience and passing on a small reward now in favor of a greater reward later.

much respect at this big budah as to how you are dressed, they even loan you a scarf to cover your bare shoulders with. free entry which is always a plus plenty of food and drink, a great chance to score some souvenirs, a must visit and a very well made video.

Wat Traimit, Bangkok the world's largest solid gold statue, 3 metres (9.8 ft) tall and weighs 5.5 tons. 18 karat worth around 250 million dollars
interesting story of the Golden Buddha goes back a long way ...

the golden light
In 1957 an entire Monastery in Thailand was being relocated by a group of monks. One day they were moving a giant clay Buddha when one of the monks noticed a large crack in the clay. On closer investigation he saw there was a golden light emanating from the crack. The monk used a hammer and a chisel to chip away at the clay exterior until he revealed that the statue was in fact made of solid gold.

Historians believe the Buddha had been covered with clay by Thai monks several hundred years earlier to protect it from an attack by the Burmese army. In the attack, all the monks had been killed and it wasn’t until 1957 that this great treasure was actually discovered. more on that story can be found @ carolyntate.co
