Taxi to Morchit 2 Bus Terminal (Northeastern Bus Terminal), there aircond. Bus Nr. 21 to Korat. They leave every 15 - 20 minutes, costs about 400 baht. Takes about 3 - 4 hours.

I'd take a taxi all the way. Less likelihood of the vehicle falling onto the road as a pile of rust and you can stop whenever you want. Door to door service too. About THB3,000, give or take.

I like potholing so my preference is to drive along Highway 2 myself.

I think there are also still some red busses (not aircond.). People say taking them is an experience you'll never forget. ;)

From the central train station Hua Lompong there are also trains at irregular intervals and different comforts and travel duration. Some are ok!

Airplane is a questionable thing nobody can give really reliable info about. But there are said to be flights at certain occasions. The Korat airport (NAK) is far outside of town and arranging transportation from there to town might be an incalculable problem. Taxis or tuk tuks shun hanging around there for the lack of passengers.
