The Best Korat Hotel
« on: November 04, 2009, 01:25:09 AM »
So which is the best hotel in Korat? Now obviously the Dusit Princess Korat is probably the best, but that comes at a price, so taking price into consideration and how little time is actually spent in a hotel on your holiday you get to vote for 2 choices, also guests can vote aswell, anyway taken from their websites is the following.

Dusit Princess Korat

Our facilities help you unwind or engage
Sip a cocktail amidst the melody in the D’Bar or afternoon tea at our Dusit Gourmet. There is also a relaxing swimming pool and a Fitness Centre. Afterwards, enjoy a soothing massage at Namm Spa to ease your muscles. Rendezvous at poolside Princess Café for afternoon snacks and international cuisine, or taste sumptuous Chinese dishes at The Empress Chinese Restaurant. The hotel also has full banqueting facilities and Business Centre.

I have been looking at hotels in Korat and have a couple more suggestions :) City Park Hotel Korat.
Rachaphruk Grand Hotel, 311 Mittrapab Road, Muang, Nakhonratchasima, 30000, Thailand.
Greenery Resort Korat.
Sabai Hotel Korat in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Which is the best depends on how rate comfort, price and location. Right in town there's a wide choice of hotels that are not expensive but some may be in need of a spruce up. Dusit and Sabai are out from the centre. Sabai is smart but a farang on his own may be offered only a top rate room.

If you don't mind a bit of a ride into town, the Korat Resort is, in my opinion, by far the best on offer. Good rooms, quiet location, good restaurant, superb buffet breakfast, swimming pool, golf range and bikes for hire.

Raya Grand is popular with some but offers only the too common Thai hotel poor excuse for an American breakfast. Up the street is a reasonable selection of restaurants.

Some like V1 which is within a short tuk tuk ride of Yamo.

My own favourite in town is Sima Thani. Very smart, a reasonable buffet restaurant, karaoke, massage and a 'friendly' bar (I'm told) around the corner.

I thought the Korat Sima Thani was the cheapest of the big hotels, ie around 400baht per night, am I mistaken?

4 figures? I think a Korat guesthouse thread is in order, I don't pay 4 figure sums in Thailand for hotels that I am just going to pass out drunk in, I mean all a hotel is for is dumping your stuff off, having a shower then your off out till its time for bed, wake up, shite and shower then out again, wonder where I got the figure 400baht per night from, must have dreamt it.

I met with some friends in October who stayed at the Sima Thani Korat at the same time, cheapest room they told me was 1200 baht a night B & B,apperently the buffet breakfast is to die for, I think they said it 180 baht for non residents.
I stayed for a week or so at the K S Pavillion for about a week at 700 baht a night B & B, the breakfast was dissapointing as it was all Thai except for the toast and marmalade and coffee  :D before moving into a hotel apartment at 450 baht a night.
There is a new one just opened more or less opposite the Mall, I think it is called the City Park hotel or something close to that, I beleive the rooms start at about 1400 baht a night. I cannot comment on it as I only visited the Karaoke  ;)

It seems that the Korat Sima Thani is the hands down winner in Korat for breakfast, although I had a nice Indian chicken tikka and naan bread for breakfast today and I bet they don't do that in their buffet :)

I do like Chicken Tikka & Nan,but I think I will pass on it for brekkies  ;D thanks. My 2 mates are definately full english material so they filled their boots and said "it were great" (sic)

I am still getting my head around a lot of the food that the locals (I can't spell indigineous) eat and the rice soup with egg and the chickens feet in it, then there are the ducks or is it chicken heads and things takes a bit of getting used to,but I'm getting there, with every visit comes a new experiance  :o

The Apart/hotel I stayed at for the majority of my stay in Korat was called the Bhumirak, unfortunately the business card is in Thai but it is located behind some new empty shop houses opposite the park which is on the same road as Korat railway station, so if you are looking at the railway station, go right and follow for appx 1 km, there is a big park on the left with a lake and what looks to be a display area for bands etc, a huge light tower dominates the centre, look on the opposite side of the road and you should see the hotel or sign pointing up the driveway behind the aforementioned empty shops.
