Thai Delicacies
« on: July 31, 2014, 05:43:19 PM »
I finally got around to trying one of the Thai/Asian delicacies:-  Chicken Feet.  They are quite good but you have to suck them rather than eat them as they are full of bones.  They are a bit like eating crabs.  The meat is delicious but it is hardly worth the effort of extracting the meat from the bones.  I tried this delicacy at a restaurant along Soi Praputhsrichaiyo just before it joins the 304.  (Soi Praputhsrichaiyo is the extension of Saubsiri Road past the army golf course).  Photo below:-

you can buy fried chicken feet in most markets where they sell fried chicken only about 20 bht.

chicken Feet Bone Broth is supposed to be good for you.

full of  glucosamine, chondroitin, collagen and trace minerals! Great for hair, nails, joints, and our digestive health! They are composed of connective tissue and joints after all. Chicken feet have even shown to help improve arthritis.

According to an old South American proverb, "good broth will resurrect the dead." While that's undoubtedly an exaggeration, it speaks to the value placed on this wholesome food, going back through the annals of time.       video below go on have a go

Cut the talons of Blanche and peel and in the pot they went with tatties onions carrots and the rest.
A twist of lemon job done.

Not much taste at all, just suck what little meat there is off the bones.i noticed some people manage to chomp through the bones as well. :o

Here's another article on chicken feet - will also make you look younger. :)

Are There Any Benefits in Eating Chicken Feet?

Eating chicken feet may sounds gross to you, but it is a delicacy with the Chinese, Vietnamese, Filipino and the Korean.

Even non-Asians are eating chicken feet. The Jamaican, South African, Trinidadian and South American have their own versions of chicken feet recipes.

Some say the reason that people ate chicken feet was not to waste any edible parts of the chicken. This could be true as most ethnic groups that ate chicken feet were traditionally from the lower income groups.

While other says, chicken feet are good for health.

Research by the Department of Animal Science of National Chung-Hsing University in Taiwan had shown that chicken feet contained a lot of collagen[1]. This is the ingredient for younger looking skin.

So now you know, eating chicken feet will not only save all the edible parts of the chicken, but will also make you look younger.

Collagen from Chicken Feet

The research at this Taiwanese University confirmed that chicken feet is a good alternative source for collagen. The usual sources are from bovine, pig and marine fish. The research work was also to find the best method to extract this collagen, from chicken feet.

This confirmed what our grandparents had been saying all along and why eating chicken feet has its benefits.

Healthier and younger looking skin
Rich in calcium and protein without the carbohydrate
Improves blood supply by strengthening the blood vessels
Assist the body to metabolize fats, hence good for weight loss
