Sporting Gun Clubs in Korat
« on: August 07, 2013, 04:21:48 PM »
Hi Members, I was wondering if anyone might know of any Sporting Pistol/Gun Clubs in or near Korat?
The reason I ask is that a good mate of mine is coming to visit in December and asked me if I could find out for him.
My mate is a club member of the Sporting Shooters Association Australia (SSAA) in Perth West Australia and has competed overseas in other countries.
Any info would be most appreciated such as are there clubs, membership fees etc.

I know Farangs are not allowed to own a gun in Thailand be it a genuine weapon or air rifle/pistol, please correct me if I'm Wrong

Cheers,

Jonesy :cheers

There's a gun club in the army area near to the golf course. Anyone can join with or without a gun licence. They rent guns, sell ammunition and targets. Join for a year and get started, with tuition and supervision right away. The fee is very modest.

Foreigners can apply for gun licences and own a gun but the procedure is long winded and of no use for a visitor.

Hey Saf,

a mate of mine is a gun enthusiast and like me is under the impression that Farangs cannot own guns, you are saying differently, Can you give me some more info so I can pass it on to him. He lives in BKK.

Can anyone wander in to buy ammo or do you have to be a member first?

Thanks for any help.

ff, have a look at this link:

http://koratfart.com/official-stuff-laws/gun-and-self-defence-laws/msg26964/#msg26964

There is nothing in the law that says foreigners cannot licence and own a gun. The procedure for obtaining a licence is managed by the head of each Amphur office and, as you might expect, each will have his own interpretation. For example, some will readily licence a powerful hand gun whilst others regard them as military, police or PYB weapons. One complication for foreigners could be the criminal background check.

Ammunition can be bought at gun shops. The gun club in Korat sells it for use at the club but perhaps they sell it to take away too. They will sell to members only.

Your friend's best course of action would be to talk with some of the many gun shops around Old Siam Plaza in BKK. Not only will they be able to give him the local advice he needs but they will also have helpful police contacts who can chivvy along the Amphurs who like to create obstacles on the way to a suggestion that they are in need of the price of a cup of tea.

Regarding the gun club in Korat, you will need either to speak Thai or have a Thai speaker with you. The various managers are very helpful. It's a well run place frequented by members who have specialist target guns and police and army officers who want to hone their skills privately. There are ranges there for hand guns, rifles and shotguns. The club has a shop for accessories such as ear defenders, carry bags and other weapons.

Thanks Saf, I have passed your comments onto my friend. He is an ex cop from Colorado so police checks should not be a problem.

I'm a member of that gun club and I can tell you it's a top notch place.  They also have a cool shop there where you can buy all sorts of stuff.

Keep in mind that guns in Thailand are VERY expensive.  To give you an idea, a Glock 21 (.45) back in the states retails for around 500.00 dollars (15,000 Baht).  Here at the gun shop opposite the I.T plaza, they will order you one from Bangkok for 90,000 Baht.  That's 3000.00 dollars!  Unless you've got money to burn, I'd suggest a second hand gun.  I personally prefer Glocks as they are easy to maintain, easy to disassemble, and there are loads of accessories for them.

Thanks for the Info Guys,
And about the shop opposite IT Plaza Baby Farts, you have mentioned the price of a new Glock 21 is around $3000.....So second hand pistols or rifles to own and use at that club I would imagine to be a lot cheaper, could you give me an idea about what is available in good quality second hand and roughly what prices?

I have noticed a few air soft rifles and pistols available at the Safe One markets and on one visit was taken around the back of one of the stalls when I showed interest, but was showed some real guns and ammo, but told to keep quiet about it,
I would say if one was to buy something from there you would run the risk of getting caught and arrested as they looked like a real sleazy bunch and probably under the microscope of the law? :uhm

Don't buy anything illegally. If you have to use it you will be in deep do do.

Don't buy anything made elsewhere than in Europe or the US.

Let's not give too much information in public. There are lunies about and guns are not toys.

When you get near the entrance watch out for stray bullets.
Fun is the one thing that money can't buy
