Best way to find your way around Korat?

Hi, I'm currently travelling around Northeast Thailad. One of my experiences is that finding your way around isn't as easy as you would expect. Road signs are insufficient and the maps available at hotels hardly get you where you intended to go. They must build  new roads over here much faster than people can draw maps. And directions the locals give you don't seem to take you in the right directions either. What do you people use for finding your way around?

Mobile phones with navigator or GPS functions and satellite images on Google Earth. Don't forget this is a developing country. New streets are built at the speed of light.
