1965 Communication Squadron
« on: July 01, 2010, 04:14:41 PM »
When I was in Thailand in 1965 and 1966, I vaguely remembered what unit I was assigned. Was there a 1965 Communication Squadron?  I was a communication specialist (teletype) and our commcenter was located near the flight line.  Does anyone remember a commcenter near the flight line?

I believe the pilots were right across where we were.  I do remember Bob Hope and his entourage passing our commcenter.

The reason I thought the unit I was assigned to, 1965 comm squadron, on the first day with my unit, I was told by the first sgt to remove my old Air force unit patch and sew on the 1965 comm squadron patch.  Anyway, was there a 1965 commsq?

FYI:  IF YOU ARE GOING BACKWARDS IN TIME TO READ THIS.  THE 1965 COMM SQ WAS HEADQUARTERED AT NKP.  THE UNIT PROVIDED SECURE AND RADIO COMM FOR TFA AND TUOC.  I WAS STATIONED THERE TDY IN 1968 TO SUPPORT THE AIR STRIKES THEN BEING DONE ACROSS THE BORDER INTO VIETNAM.  WE ALSO HAD THE COMM FOR JOLLY GREEN AND CANDLESTICK AIRCRAFT.
