International Folklore festival kicks off in Surin

SURIN, 17 January 2014 (NNT) - The Surin International Folklore Festival has kicked off, with folk artists from more than 20 countries participating in the event.

This is the ninth consecutive year the annual event has been held in Surin, featuring international folklore performances from 20 countries, academic conference, international costume fashion show and a food fair.

Surin province governor Nirun Kalayanamit made his speech during the reception of foreign artists and those joining the event. The artists then took turns strutting their stuff before marching in a parade through Surin streets to invite residents to the event that will be held until January 25, at Surindra Rajabhat University.

The festival is aimed at increasing opportunities for folklore artists worldwide to share their experiences and perform their best techniques as well as conserving these invaluable cultural heritage for younger generations.

The elephant festival will take place in November. I believe that the elephants are presently being walked around Thailand on roads unsuitable for their feet in order to make money for those who rent them.
