Yasothon Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival 2018

The fertility rites and ceremonies play a major role in Thai culture. One of the most famous is the Rocket festival

Asking for fertile fields and prosperity, while performing sexual innuendo and firing up the phallus-shaped bamboo rockets, the festival is all about sex. Featuring parades, inappropriate jokes and party atmosphere, the event culminates with a contest of the rockets and diving into a muddy pond.

Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival in Yasothon is 13-15 May 2016

The Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival is held in Yasothon the north east in May. Where Villagers spend months beforehand preparing home made rockets, The festival comes out of ancient stories about reminding the animist god Phaya Thaen to send the rains for the planting season, lets hope it happens.

Plenty to see as in main street in Yasothorn, colourful floats, gaily dressed dancers, beauty pageants and of course the loudest rock or local music imaginable.

Sunday is normaly the day for the rockets which sometimes don't go as planned, an event not to be missed but be careful and stand well back.
