BANGKOK, 20 April 2015 (NNT) - The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) is set to expedite its plan to put the power lines on Sukumvit 24 in Bangkok, underground.

Somchai Roadrungwasinkul of the MEA’s board of directors revealed that the authority will work in partnership with the Metropolitan Police Bureau on the scenic improvement of one of Bangkok’s most prominent roads. The project will remove from sight, some eight hundred meters of overhead electric cables on Sukumvit 24.

From Apr 23 to May 24, 2015, authorities will close off one traffic lane and only allow incoming traffic from Rama IV Road. From May 25 to October 31, one lane will be closed between 10p.m. to 4a.m. for further work burying the cables.

In addition, the MEA has revealed plans to conceal all cable lines along the Sky Train route underground, as well as on Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra Road, Rama III Road and Ratchadaphisek Road. The underground relocation of the cables on these roads is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
