BANGKOK, 2 September 2015 (NNT) - Heavy rain has been forecast in the North and Northeast of the country, as a monsoon trough moves across the regions toward the Gulf of Tonkin.

The Meteorological Department warned of heavy rain for residents of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Uttaradit, Nan, Phrae and Tak provinces. In the Northeast, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Nakhon Phanom and Mukdahan provinces are expected to receive more rain compared to the rest of the region.

The same can be said of provinces in the Central Plains, including Suphanburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Phatom and Bangkok. Heavy rain is also forecast during this time for most of the East Coast.

Only 40% of the southern region will receive rain, mostly in Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket and Krabi provinces. Waves could reach a maximum height of two meters in the Andaman Sea.
