Disaster expert: Tsunami & Earthquake likely in Thailand
« on: April 15, 2012, 12:25:20 AM »
BANGKOK, 14 April 2012 (NNT) – Natural disaster expert Smith Dharmasaroja has cautioned Thai people and related agencies to prepare for a possibility of Tsunami and earthquake as a result of solar storms.
Citing a recent report from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Smith disclosed that the solar storms had sent out solar waves that caused a strong impact on the earth’s magnetic field. The phenomenon has affected the world since April 10.

The renowned scientist warned that the solar storms may bring on earthquakes around the Indian Ocean which is now bearing the impact of the storms.

The former chief of the National Disaster Warning Center said there would be a series of solar storms until next year. The storms are likely to be most severe on December 21 this year.

Smith added that there was a possibility Thailand would be hit by a strong earthquake. Bangkok could suffer extensive damage if it is within the 350-kilometer radius of the quake given that the capital stands on soft soil and many of the buildings are substandard. He suggested that the government hastily inspect all constructions throughout the capital and prepare preventive measures to mitigate losses.

The natural disaster expert also revealed that of all 13 faults in the country, the one in the Andaman Sea is the most worrying due to its size and strength.

The fault, which lies past the provinces of Ranong, Surat Thani, Phang Nga and Krabi, extends to Myanmar and stretches to Sumatra Island. An earthquake that originates from Sumatra coast may as a result put Bangkok at risk.

21 December 2012 is believed by many to be the day that the world as we know it will come to an end. Perhaps this guy is hoping to buy his 15 minutes of fame by forecasting a world scale disaster on that same day.

A rather strange name he's got.

In case you're worried, here's a map of Thailand's active earthquake zones:
