Thailand ranks 62nd out of 70 in English skills

Thailand ranks 62 out of 70 countries in a global ranking of English skills by EF Education First.

The education company yesterday released the fifth annual edition of its EF English Proficiency Index (EF EPI), the world's largest ranking of countries by English skills.

I'm never quite sure how much emphasis should be put on arbitrary tests like this but they do not appear to paint a pretty picture of Thailand's English language education policy.  It also notes that 31.3% of government expenditure is spent on education in Thailand - the highest percentage in the survey.  I wonder how much of that expenditure is maybe "allocated" to other forms of education such as military education etc?

JF - your native home comes in an admirable 11th, but "Native Speaking" countries are not included...probably for the best given the level of eloquence in certain areas of the UK.
