as a regular reader to this forum for many years,i have not read such an insult up to now,as thai being classed as a moron. The term (moron) belongs to a classification system no longer in use and is now considered offensive ie: a person of mild mental retardation.
remember you are a guest here. ajaan
Not true at all, because it all depends on who's using the term. You can look it up here.
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/moron1.
Informal. A person who is notably stupid or lacking in good judgment.
2.
Psychology. (no longer in technical use; now considered offensive) a person of borderline intelligence in a former and discarded classification of mental retardation, having an intelligence quotient of 50 to 69.
I think definition #1 does apply to many Thais, not all, but many, and I can show you the 100+ collection of videos from my dash cam that I've been collecting over the past few months and saving on my computer recording the the way Thais drive. This is not an insult. It's just a fact. If you can't figure out how to put on a condom or take pill then you're dumb, and I do believe there are people like that here as I'm sure there are in other countries too. The same can be said about any technology that exists here, especially cars and motorcycles. Part of that I blame on ignorance, that's because many folks here have gone from the water buffalo to a moving vehicle with an engine without understanding the technology, let alone invent it, or how to use it. There isn't a day that goes by when some idiot cuts me off, almost hits my car, parks so close that I can get out of a space, etc. The list goes on.
This is why I put a real train horn in my car. I got sick and tired of scooter boy doing hit and runs on my cars. I got sick and tired of the fourteen accidents I've had since I've been here (NONE my fault.) Now when some "Moron," is about to hit my car, I give the "Moron," a good blast to the face of good old fashion train horn at 160+ decibels. I look at it this way. I'm also doing them a favor, because I'm preventing them from getting in a accident too. Think about it. Not everyone here drives like that, but the majority do. So in my mind, I call them idiots and sometimes fcking moron too. My wife (who is Chinese-Thai) calls many of her own people "stupid." How's that? Even she knows the score.
She taught me a word which defines the attitude of many folks here. Mak-Ngai. It means the EASY WAY out. The condom post from the captain is a clear example. What does it say on the condom package? Never mind. Mai pen Rai. Don't bother to read it, just use the old pull and pray method, or as the women like to do...just give the vagina a good blasting with the butt blaster water hose to clean out all that jism.
While we're talking about insults...how about the word,"farang?" Many foreigners do NOT like being called this word, and even though there is a polite way to refer to a foreigner (Chao-Tang-Chat), Thais very rarely use it. I don't mind it because when someone says it to me, I correct them in front of every one there and teach them polite and correct word. In other words, they lose face, especially when they're getting a Thai vocabulary lesson from a foreigner

*We can also talk about how "guests," are treated here, but we'd have to start a whole new topic about that.
