Min of Education unveils English-learning app

The Ministry of Education has unveiled an English-learning app for all groups of people to strengthen their English language proficiency, in response to the arrival of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

Education Minister Gen Dapong Ratanasuwan explained that the application, called Echo English, was jointly developed by the ministry and the private sector as part of a public cooperation campaign.

The application is designed for four target groups: the general public, school and college students, workers in different areas, and civil servants. This month, developers plan to equip the application with 200 English lessons that cover speaking, listening, reading, and writing exercises.

The application will be piloted in six secondary schools, before being expanded to other schools across the country within 2016. Deputy Education Minister Teerakiat Jareonsettasin is supervising the program, while the Vocational Education Commission is tasked with compiling vocabulary from different organizations.

The Education Minister said the application was expected to promote English learning among Thais. The application is currently available for Android devices and will have an iOS version later this month.
