small run manufacturing of plastic seats
« on: August 04, 2017, 08:29:16 AM »
Does anyone know of any small plastic injection moulding companies in the area? Maybe your wifes/girlfriends family work at one?
i am looking to make approx 50- 100 plastic bar stool seats every month  from 3D drawings i have. I am happy to pay for a mould.

it appears Google offers no options , as small companies do not appear to have websites/ facebook or anything that may bring them business and as my fingers have gone numb from looking i am hoping some Korat-farts can help me

Hello Paul. I don't usually contribute here but I noticed your question. I'm not an expert but do have some experience.

You may know that injection moulds are quite expensive to manufacture and the costs are usually recovered in high quantities, thousands or even millions. Your product will need a fairly large mould which may be expensive . . .

Just a suggestion - I wonder if you can 'piggy back' and use a mould for a similar shaped product - but you still have to find the Factory that has it.

Good luck - your proposed product looks great !

Hi

i t has been suggested on another forum that I may be better getting a fibreglass mould made as these are less expensive and people will do smaller runs on these.
Clearly, no one is going to do a run of a million or even ten thousand of these or any chairs. Trying to find factories is proving elusive despite Thailand supposedly having over 3000, less than 20 promote themselves via websites. Not sure how the rest survive or they may just rely on one one or two customers, fatal from a business perspective.
looks like i will have to pursue the fibreglass option, again very few advertise it appears to be word of mouth with small factories stuck n the middle of nowhere.

Hi Paul. I hadn't heard about fibre glass moulds for use with plastic injection moulding. (The only time I've seen fibre glass moulds was for fishing boat hulls and structures  at Cygnus Marine - the mould was painstakingly built up from a master nub - fibre glass sheets laid outside and coated repeatedly with resin. The inside of the mould was then laid with sheets of fibre glass brushed with resin again and again and again until reaching the thickness needed).

It might be worth looking around and asking around the Suranari Industrial Estate for a moulding Company - Good Luck !
