Residents were shocked to discover the meter long reptile wandering in their village. Due to the hot weather, it is assumed that the croc escaped from it's cage in search of food. Officers were in a rush to capture it.

NAKORNPRATHOM – May 4th, 2013 [PDN]; authorities of Sarmqaipheuak Police Station in Nakhornpathom province were notified from concerned residents in Siriwan Village about a crocodile loose in the neighborhood. They were afraid that it would have been a danger to people in the village so they reported the sighting and had the police come to inspect.

Police officers searched Soi 3 on the east side of the village and encountered the crocodile with the length of approximately one meter. It was agile and crept all over the street all while dogs were barking at it.

From interviews from the village residents, it is revealed that this crocodile belonged to a house that fed the crocodile in a caged aquarium. This incident occurred without the knowledge of the owners since they were away upcountry. Neighbors think that the reptile escaped the night before because they heard dogs barking all night. In the morning people saw the crocodile that was creeping in the street which lead them to be temporarily locked inside their homes out of fear.

Police inspected the house of the suspected crocodile owner and found that the garage in front of the house was filled with caged animals ranging from birds, fish and dogs. It was reported that the top of the cage of the aquarium was found open which police assumed lead to the escape of the crocodile. Again, the warm weather might have been too intense for the reptile and made it hungry enough to push itself out in hopes of finding food around the village to feed it’s hunger.

The police later coordinated with the local rescuers to capture the croc which took quite a long while. From inspection it was found that it was a mature reptile but the sex was unknown. Officers kept the crocodile so that the owner could pick it up and bring it back home.

Nice of them! When three dozen crocs took leave from a farm in Non Sung some years ago during a flood they just shot them and distributed the steaks to the public.
