Cat Saves Boy From Vicious Dog Attack In California

A desperate neighbour's breathless 911 call has been released by police after her dog viciously attacked a four-year-old boy playing next door.

The unidentified woman, clearly in shock, pleads for an ambulance as screams from young victim Jeremy Triantafilo are heard in the background.

The shock attack by the Labrador-Chow cross - caught on video - ended when Jeremy's cat, Tara, came to the rescue and chased the much-bigger pet away in an act of selfless bravery by a normally timid moggy.

The 911 call is believed to have been made just seconds after the attack when the dog is still at large and terrified Jeremy has been left with horrific leg wounds.

The neighbour is heard telling the operator: 'It is an accident .. my dog bite ... he's here.'

The operator is heard asking 'Do you need an ambulance?' as shouts of 'get him out of here!' are heard in the background and Jeremy cries in fear.

The neighbour confirms she wants an ambulance and again adds in shock: "My dog ... he went out and he bite."

Police now say the dog will be put down.

Police say the Labrador-Chow cross has nine days left in quarantine before it will be "euthanized" after the attack.

Jeremy, who has a mild form of autism, is caught on video riding his bicycle home from school when the neighbour's eight-month-old dog sneaks up behind him and grabs his leg in its jaws.

It pulls the young boy to the ground and is shaking him vigorously when the family's cat, called Tara, rushes forward to confront the much bigger Labrador and chases it away.

Jeremy needed stitches for the bite but his family say he is fine while the video has become an internet hit and Tara the toast of the neighbourhood.
